Erection of the wind park

Great care will be taken during erection of the wind park to prevent harming the natural environment and landscape. Of course due to the size of the project it will not be possible to completely avoid a certain disturbance of the immediate surroundings. The wind park operator has urged all persons involved with the project to pay special attention to keep damage to a minimum.

It is only natural that consideration has be given to preserve the alpine vegetation. A layer of humus about 30 cm deep will be carefully cut out, piled and stored nearby. Special material will be placed between the layered blocks which will be watered and stored in a shady place to prevent them from drying out.

Serious thought has been given as how to restore the alpine surface to its original structure after digging work for foundations and underground cables has been completed. Experts from several universities have designed a concept for this re-cultivation process especially for the Tauernwindpark project. The method will be researched at the site. The results can be downloaded here as soon as they are available.

Access Road and Transportation

Emphasis has been made to avoid major changes and construction on the access road "Höhenstraße". This has been achieved by the design of a special vehicle for transportation of the large turbine pieces and other measures which are part of the transportation concept. The vehicle will also be necessary for the delivery of replacement parts during operation of the Tauernwindpark.

The access road will be improved and most of the work will actually be done on the curves. This will avoid extensive disturbance of the landscape and the alpine ground surface.

The Transformers

For environmental purposes (less area for building will be needed) and due to the extreme climatic conditions, the transformers will be installed directly in the turbine towers.
