The 690 V electrical current produced by the wind turbine generator
is sent through a transformer and raised to 30,000 volts. The transformer
of the Vestas V66 can be found in the engine room at the back of
the nacelle. It is separated from the rest of the nacelle by a screen
which can be locked.
In the lower part of the tower near the entrance
is a SF6 cable switching gear system (30 kV) which can cut the wind
turbine off from the grid when necessary.
