Grid Connection

The 690 V electrical current produced by the wind turbine generator is sent through a transformer and raised to 30,000 volts. The transformer of the Vestas V66 can be found in the engine room at the back of the nacelle. It is separated from the rest of the nacelle by a screen which can be locked.

In the lower part of the tower near the entrance is a SF6 cable switching gear system (30 kV) which can cut the wind turbine off from the grid when necessary.

The produced energy from all the turbines is directed over a 30 kV circular cable to the switching station (30 kV) near wind turbine number 3.

From here the energy is transported 20.86 km by means of a 30 kV underground cable to the transformer station Teufenbach where it is distributed to the 110 kV grid of the utility STEWEAG by means of a cable junction.

For internal energy purposes a transformer with a turns ratio of 30 kV to 400 kV can be found in the switching station near turbine 3. A 400 kV underground cable will be laid along the complete length of the circular cable system for delivering power to the wind turbines and to the Klosterneuburger Hütte.
