Description

The Tauernwindpark Oberzeiring is situated in the Austrian Niedere Tauern mountain range in 1,900 metres above sea level. At this altitude it can be designated as Europe´s highest wind park.

The location is in the west of the Province of Styria at a central point in Austria and can be reached easily.

From Linz and Graz take the Phyrnautobahn A9 (E57), from Vienna take the A2 and S6, from areas west of Oberzeiring take the Tauernautobahn A10 via Schladming and from Klagenfurt take the B83

The wind park is in the municipal community Oberzeiring near the Klosterneuburger Hütte, a small mountain cabin where visitors can take a rest and buy refreshments all year round.

The mountain ridge, where the wind park will be erected, stretches between the peeks Kobaldeck and Pichlerstein and is perpendicular to the main wind direction. Due to its exposed location the site promises to be very suitable for the operation of wind turbines. The wind measurements at the site in 49 m showed a mean wind speed of 7 m/s. This can be compared to wind conditions on the North See.

The wind park will consist of 11 wind turbines from the type Vestas V66, each with a rated power of 1.75 MW. With a total rated power of 19.25 MW it has been predicted that the wind park will produce 40,000 MWh per year.

The Tauernwindpark can only be reached by car from the beginning of April to the end of October over an access road called the "Höhenstraße". In winter the site is accessible via the skiing area Lachtal/Rossalpe by means of a ski tow or by foot or with a special vehicle from the Tauernwind GmbH.
