To erect a wind park in the mountains at 1,900 meters above sea level remained a utopia for many years. No one in the Austrian wind energy scene would have dared to carry out such a project. It was Johannes Trauttmansdorff who took over all the risks and responsibility for the Tauernwindpark. Many wind experts thought he must be crazy for doing this.

It was his deep motivation for the project and his 100% identification with it which gave him the power to keep looking forward and to keep the project going on. Not only the Tauernwindpark is important for him but the philosophy behind it which sees humans and the environment as the focus of interest:

Our first priority is the production of clean and sustainable energy so that we can leave our children and grandchildren a world behind in which it is worthwhile to live.

We want to get the message to as many people as possible that it is necessary to think and act in environmentally friendly ways. We will hold seminars, lectures and classes in order to improve environmental consciousness.

Tremendous Potential in Spain

Responsible thinking calls for new dimensions. With the Tauernwindpark we are opening up new potential for wind energy by showing that electricity from wind can be produced at such high elevations.

Serious alternatives for fossil fuels must be developed and utilised. Wind power is an important alternative.

The Tauernwindpark will show how valuable such a project can be for a region. New jobs will be created and the wind park will give the region a positive image for its environmentally friendly engagement. Not only the financial value the wind park brings to the community is important but also the fact that private persons from the area can buy shares in the wind park. Another positive factor is that the wind park will be a tourist attraction which will benefit the whole area.
