Altener

ALTENER - Alternative Energy Programme of the European Commission- is an EU programme with the goal of supporting renewable energy projects.

Its main objective is to increase the share of renewable energy consumption by supporting public and private investors with projects related to the production and usage of renewables and by helping to better the legal, administrative and social-economic framework for this form of energy.

The Altener project included the first important development steps of the Tauernwindpark:

10 m wind measurements
SODAR wind measurements incl. model calculations
49 m wind measurements
Publishing of a guideline for wind energy projects in Styria,
Austria
Planning steps for the wind park

Costs

Total cost of the Altener project amounted to: EUR 191,991.

ALTENER supported the project with EUR 70,000. Included in this support was the 10 m and 49 m measurement campaigns, planning steps from the Energiewerkstatt GmbH, the SODAR measurements and the model calculations carried out by the German Wind Energy Institute (DEWI).The proposal for the ALTENER funds was made in the autumn of 1998. A positive answer was received in February 1999. The project began officially in June 1999.
